Let’s talk

Example H2

Four years ago, the Flutter communities across Latin America all shared the same dream: we wanted an event as big as the ones in Europe, and none of us really knew whether it was possible.

One day Mauricio, Somnio's CEO, reached out to bring me into an initiative that was still in the works. Months of coordination later, the first edition happened in Medellín and brought more than 300 Flutter developers into the same room, all with the same obsession.

Since then we've been through Peru, where I had the honor of hosting alongside Flutter Arequipa, then Ecuador, and now Mexico.

‍

FlutterConf LATAM editions across Latin America

Four years, four countries

They've been four years of stories, of learning, and of friendships now scattered across the region. The journey took FlutterConf LATAM from Medellín to Peru to Quito, and now to Cancún. You can watch how it grew in the recaps of the FlutterConf LATAM 2023 edition, the FlutterConf LATAM 2024 highlights in Peru, and the FlutterConf LATAM 2025 recap in Quito. Those years also opened the door to conversations with people who move the Flutter ecosystem worldwide, something that felt far out of reach from our local communities.

The original idea was to take the conference to every country in Latin America. Reality had other plans: logistics, costs, and above all visa restrictions made that traveling format harder and harder to sustain, and made attending impossible for a lot of people.

That's why this edition is different. It isn't an ending, it's a rethink. We're reshaping the format into something that fits the community as it is today and brings more value to more people, even if that means leaving behind the version of the dream we started with. We'll have news about that soon. For now, it's time to live this edition from start to finish.

This year I'm also speaking: After the Great Thread Merge

In Cancún I'll be giving a talk about threads in Flutter and Dart.

It's an intimidating topic at first. It sounds like engine internals, like something that shouldn't concern you as long as the app works. But it only takes a handful of concepts for it to become one of the most interesting areas of Flutter, and for you to start building things you used to write off as too complicated or simply impossible.

And I won't be the only Somnier on stage: Gianfranco Papa, our CTO and Co-founder and a Google Developer Expert, is also speaking, with a talk on agentic coding in a Flutter shop and what the data actually says.

‍

Somnio and AudioCardio

AudioCardio is a sound therapy app designed to improve hearing. That means generating audio at a low level, with precision, without interruptions, and without the UI freezing along the way.

When the performance problems showed up, the answer didn't come from optimizing widgets. It came from really understanding what runs where, and from moving the heavy work to Rust.

That path, why we ended up there and what we learned along the way, is the backbone of the talk.

No spoilers, but here's your homework

If you want to show up with the fundamentals fresh, I recommend watching Tricking Dart by Ademir Villena, my colleague and friend at Somnio. That talk was one of the direct inspirations for this one, and it covers a good part of the conceptual ground.

See you in Cancún

FlutterConf LATAM 2026 📍 Universidad del Caribe, Cancún, Mexico 🗓️ September 22–23, 2026 🎤 After the Great Thread Merge: how not to freeze Flutter with Dart, Isolates, and Rust 🎟️ Tickets at flutterconflatam.dev

If you're going to be around, find me in the hallways or at the Somnio booth. I'd love to swap knowledge and stories about something we're both passionate about. See you soon!
