HelloTalk
Background
Hello Talk is the world's largest language exchange platform, aiming to pair individuals who want to learn a foreign language with native speakers of that language. The app allows users to teach each other for free, functioning as a blend of a social network and a language learning platform.
The project with Somnio focused on Wordia, a vocabulary trainer app. Wordia improves language learning through a combination of gamified flashcard tools and pronunciation practice, introducing words typically absent in traditional textbooks.
The challenge
They needed an efficient solution for developing their educational content, specifically for Wordia. Their requirements included:
- A hybrid flashcard app with gamification.
- Support for multiple platforms without repetitive development.
- A fast iteration process for updates and content changes.
The solution
Somnio’s approach included:
- Technology: Using Flutter for efficient cross-platform development, enabling simultaneous deployment to native platforms. This choice also allowed content updates without needing to resubmit for app store approvals.
- Collaboration: Providing an end-to-end solution covering both design and development within one team.
- Time-zone alignment: Operating within a similar time zone to facilitate smoother collaboration.
We also provided a streamlined and agile approach to project delivery, allowing rapid testing and iteration.
The result
We provided an improved user experience with engaging vocabulary learning tools like streaks and gamification. In addition to this, we offered simplified content updates for the Hello Talk team, enabling faster iterations. This resulted in a solution that felt integrated into Hello Talk’s existing ecosystem, functioning as an outsourced yet closely collaborative team.
