FlutterCon USA 2025 demonstrated just how much the Flutter community is growing and evolving. With over 60 technical talks across three stages and more than 500 attendees, it became one of the most relevant events this year to explore what’s next for Flutter.
During two intense days in Brooklyn, we saw firsthand the direction Flutter is heading, from new tools and frameworks to real-world case studies. It wasn’t just about talks; it was about learning, sharing, and thinking together about the future of cross-platform development.
Exploring Agentive apps and Flutter’s role in the AI Era
The opening keynote at FlutterCon USA 2025 was presented by Andrew Brogdon, Staff Developer Relations Engineer at Google. His talk, “Agentive Experiences With Flutter: What, How, and Why Bother?” was a strong way to kick off the event, offering both a recap of Flutter’s current state and a glimpse into what’s next.
Andrew revisited concepts from Flutter in Production and outlined how the ecosystem is evolving toward building more intelligent and adaptive experiences. He showed a live example previously presented at Google I/O that demonstrated how Flutter, integrated with AI, is enabling new kinds of dynamic and user-aware interactions.
That direction opens new doors for developers looking to integrate AI into their apps in a meaningful and scalable way.
What’s new in the flutter AI toolkit and why it matters
One of the most interesting sessions for me was Chris Sells’ talk, “More Flutter and Dart and AI, Oh My!” where he shared the evolution of the Flutter AI Toolkit. It picked up where his talk from last year left off, demonstrating how the toolkit has grown from an initial idea into a real, flexible solution for integrating large language models (LLMs) into Flutter apps.
What makes this toolkit so useful is how open and adaptable it is. You’re not limited to one provider like Gemini, you can integrate any LLM that fits your needs. Chris also walked us through some of the latest roadmap updates.
It became clear that as we bring more AI powered features into our apps, we're also facing a shift in how users interact with them. AI isn’t deterministic and that unlocks new, unexpected flows. Flutter gives us the flexibility to keep up with that change and to turn those emerging patterns into real, usable experiences.
My speaker's experience: Empowering Flutter apps with AI
One of the highlights of FlutterCon USA 2025 was having the chance to speak and share some of the work we’ve been doing at Somnio. My talk, “Empowering Your Flutter Apps with AI: Gemini, Vertex, and Beyond,” focused on how we’re integrating generative models and AI agents into real Flutter applications.

I covered tools like Gemini and Firebase AI Logic and walked the audience through practical use cases involving prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning and other techniques we’ve applied in cross-platform projects.
The goal was to deliver developers a clear starting point for building AI-driven features in their apps, based on real-world experience, not just theory. Seeing people leave the room with ideas, questions, and concrete next steps made the session rewarding. It confirmed for me that Flutter and AI are not just compatible, they’re shaping how we’ll build the next generation of apps.
More than talks: The value of community
While the technical talks at FlutterCon USA 2025 were insightful, what stayed with me the most were the moments in between. The conversations in the hallways, the quick catch-ups between sessions, and the relaxed chats at the after-hours events all carried the same energy: people genuinely excited to share what they’re building, what they’re learning, and where they think Flutter is going next.

Talking with teams working on testing frameworks, app automation, and other tools that support things like app growth, security, and developer experience made something clear. Flutter isn’t just a UI framework anymore. It’s a growing ecosystem of people and tools focused on what it really takes to make an app successful from every angle.
These moments reinforced something I’ve always believed, and that we live every day at Somnio. Behind every line of code, there’s a team, and behind every tool, there’s a real problem someone is trying to solve. It’s easy to get caught up in features and frameworks, but at the end of the day, this community moves forward because of the people in it. That kind of energy is what keeps me excited about building with Flutter.
Final reflections: The path forward
While leaving Brooklyn with my mind full of new ideas and a renewed sense of purpose, I couldn’t help but reflect on the responsibility we carry as Flutter developers. We are not just technicians; we are architects of the future digital experience. The integration of AI into Flutter applications is a fundamental shift in how we think about the relationship between humans and technology.
FlutterCon USA 2025 was a good reminder that the community isn’t just about using the same tools or facing similar challenges. It’s about building something bigger together. We’re all working toward a future where great apps solve real problems and connect with people in meaningful ways.
Let’s keep the conversation going
What are you most curious about when it comes to Flutter’s future? How are you thinking about AI in your own projects? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. These conversations are what move the ecosystem forward.
At Somnio Software, we work every day to turn those ideas into real solutions. We specialize in applying technologies like Flutter and AI to build scalable and high-impact applications. Whether you are looking to improve performance, explore new product ideas, or bring intelligence into your app, we can help.
Let’s talk about how we can build what's next together.
